Why I Still Believe Stories Connect Us

Stories cross generations, cultures, and distances. After years of writing, teaching, and sharing stories online, I still believe in their extraordinary ability to bring people together.

Long before I began building AI projects, creating digital products, or thinking about SEO, there were stories.

As an educator, I saw how stories could capture a child’s attention when an ordinary lesson could not. As a reader, I found myself transported into lives and places completely different from my own. And as a writer and blogger, I discovered something even more powerful: a story could turn strangers into a community.

That is one reason stories have remained part of my life through so many different chapters.

When a Story Becomes a Community

Years ago, I began writing online about stories that interested me. Sometimes I wrote my own fiction and fanfiction. At other times, I followed stories that millions of other people were watching.

One particular Philippine television series became an unexpectedly important part of my blogging journey.

I didn’t simply write occasional reviews. I followed episodes closely, posted updates, shared screenshots, gathered reactions and followed discussions happening across social media. Members of our online community contributed, too.

What began as coverage of a television story gradually became a shared experience.

Years later, after leaving much of that website untouched, I discovered something surprising:

People were still visiting.

That reminded me that what we create online can have a life much longer than the moment in which we create it.

Stories Travel With Us

My own life has taken me through different countries, communities, classrooms, careers, and now technologies.

Through all of those changes, stories remained.

They helped me teach.

They helped me communicate.

They helped me document moments that otherwise might have disappeared.

And they helped me connect with people I might never have met in person.

Technology has changed dramatically since I first began writing online. Today we have social media, generative AI, digital publishing platforms, video tools, and countless new ways to create.

But our need for stories hasn’t disappeared.

If anything, I think it has become more important.

Why I’m Preserving the Old Stories

As I rebuild this website as Suite & Stories, I could simply erase the past and begin again.

I’m choosing not to.

Some of those old pages may look different from what I would create today. Some belong to another era of blogging and online communities.

But they are part of the journey.

So rather than erase them, I want to preserve and organize them while making room for new stories.

Suite & Stories will hold both.

The archives remind me where I have been.

The new work shows where I am going.

The Story Continues

I don’t know what stories I’ll be writing years from now.

Some may be fictional.

Some may come from education.

Some may document the experience of learning artificial intelligence later in my career.

Others may simply capture ordinary moments worth remembering.

But I know this:

I will keep telling stories.

Because stories entertain us—but they also teach us, preserve memories, cross borders, and remind us that someone else has felt what we have felt.

And sometimes a story written years ago finds a reader exactly when they need it.

That is why I still believe stories connect us.
