Nakita ni Maya si Bella sa gilid ng stage — nanginginig, hawak ang papel, hindi makagalaw.
“Bella, anak… you don’t have to be perfect,” Maya whispered. “You just have to try.”

Pero halata ang takot sa mata ng bata.
“What if I mess up po?” Bella asked.

Maya knelt beside her.
“Then we try again. And again. And again. I’ll be right here.”

Bella took a deep breath…
stepped forward…
and for the first time, believed she could.

The school auditorium buzzed with excitement. Students practiced lines, teachers adjusted props, and parents filled the seats. Bella stood backstage, clutching her cue card so tightly her knuckles turned white.

Maya noticed her from across the room.

She approached slowly, gently.
“Bella, anak… are you okay?”

Bella shook her head.
“I can’t do it, Tita Maya. I’ll mess up. Everyone will laugh.”

Maya knelt to meet her eyes.
“Listen to me. You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to try. And I’ll be right here.”

Bella’s breathing was shaky.
“My mom used to tell me that too… but I never believed her.”

Maya placed a hand over Bella’s.
“Then believe me now.”

The teacher called her name.
“Bella Ramirez, you’re next.”

Bella froze.

Maya squeezed her hand.
“Look at me. You are brave. You are capable. And you are not alone.”

Bella swallowed hard, nodded, and stepped onto the stage.

The lights were bright.
The audience was huge.
Her heart pounded.

But then she saw them —
Maya, Richard, Abby, Nikki, Luke — all smiling, all cheering silently.

Bella took a breath…
and began.

Her voice trembled at first, but as she continued, it grew steadier.
Clearer.
Stronger.

When she finished, the room erupted in applause.

Bella ran back to Maya, tears in her eyes.
“I did it!”

Maya hugged her tightly.
“Yes, you did. And I’m so proud of you.”

Richard approached, smiling.
“You were amazing, Bella.”

Bella looked at them — this family who wasn’t hers by blood, but by heart — and whispered:

“Thank you… for believing in me.”
