THE ROOFTOP AT 10PM
She always went up at 10PM.
So did he.
But somehow, they never met —
one always arriving just as the other left.
Until tonight,
when she pushed open the rooftop door
and found him standing there,
looking at the sky like it held all his secrets.
He turned, smiled, and said,
“I was hoping I’d finally catch you.”
Sometimes,
timing finally gets it right.

Title: The Rooftop at 10PM
Series: Moments in the City — Story 22
The rooftop of her apartment building was her sanctuary.
Quiet.
Windy.
A little cold, but peaceful in a way the rest of the city wasn’t.
Every night at 10PM,
Arielle climbed the stairs,
pushed open the heavy metal door,
and breathed in the night air.
It was her ritual.
Her reset.
Her moment.
But tonight, when she opened the door—
someone was already there.
A guy stood near the railing, hands in his pockets, hair tousled by the wind.
He turned at the sound of the door.
“Oh,” he said, surprised. “Hi.”
Arielle blinked.
“Hi. Sorry— I didn’t know anyone else came up here.”
He smiled.
“I could say the same.”
She stepped out, letting the door close behind her.
“I’m Arielle,” she said.
“Jonas,” he replied. “You’re the one who always leaves just as I’m coming up.”
Her eyes widened.
“You’ve noticed?”
He nodded.
“Yeah. I kept thinking… one day, our timing would match.”
Her heart fluttered.
“Well,” she said softly, “I guess today’s the day.”
⭐ THE FIRST REAL CONVERSATION
They stood side by side, looking out at the city lights.
Jonas broke the silence first.
“You come up here to think?”
Arielle nodded.
“Yeah. It’s quiet. Helps me breathe.”
“Same,” he said. “The world feels… softer up here.”
She glanced at him.
“You’re poetic.”
He laughed.
“No, just tired.”
She smiled.
“Same.”
⭐ THE MOMENT WITH THE STARS
Jonas pointed upward.
“Look,” he said. “You can actually see a few stars tonight.”
Arielle followed his gaze.
“Oh wow,” she whispered. “That’s rare.”
He nodded.
“I like finding them. Makes the city feel less heavy.”
She looked at him —
really looked —
and saw the softness in his expression,
the quiet in his eyes,
the gentleness he carried without trying.
“You’re different,” she said before she could stop herself.
Jonas blinked.
“Different how?”
She shrugged, flustered.
“You… feel calm. Like you’re not trying to be anything.”
He smiled — slow, warm, sincere.
“Neither are you.”
Her breath caught.
⭐ THE ALMOST‑ASK
A breeze swept across the rooftop, making Arielle shiver.
Jonas noticed immediately.
“Here,” he said, shrugging off his jacket. “Take this.”
She shook her head.
“No, no, you’ll get cold.”
“I’m fine,” he said. “You’re freezing.”
She hesitated.
He draped the jacket over her shoulders anyway.
It was warm.
Soft.
Smelled like pine and something she couldn’t name.
“Thank you,” she whispered.
Jonas looked at her —
eyes gentle, voice low.
“Arielle?”
“Yeah?”
“I know we just met… but it doesn’t feel like we just met.”
She swallowed.
“I know.”
He took a breath.
“Would it be weird if I asked to see you again? Not just on the rooftop?”
She smiled — small, shy, hopeful.
“No,” she said. “It wouldn’t be weird.”
His shoulders relaxed.
“Really?”
“Really.”
⭐ THE MOMENT AT THE DOOR
When they finally headed back downstairs, Jonas paused at the rooftop door.
“Arielle?”
She turned.
“Yeah?”
He rubbed the back of his neck.
“Same time tomorrow?”
She grinned.
“Same time.”
He smiled — bright, boyish, relieved.
“Good. I’ll be here.”
She walked down the stairs, heart warm, jacket still around her shoulders.
Behind her, Jonas whispered to himself:
“Finally.”
