🏡 Neighbors to Lovers One‑Shot

⭐ Facebook Short Version (Teaser)

Talia moved into her new apartment at 33, hoping for a quiet life after a difficult year. She wasn’t expecting much — just peace, routine, and maybe a fresh start.

She definitely wasn’t expecting her neighbor.

Evan wasn’t loud.

He wasn’t flirty.

He wasn’t trying to impress anyone.

He was just kind.

The kind who held the elevator for her.

The kind who carried her groceries without asking.

The kind who remembered her schedule, her favorite tea, and the way she smiled when she talked about books.

And when he said, “I like being someone you come home to,” Talia realized healing doesn’t always happen alone.

Sometimes it happens… across the hall.

⭐ “Across the Hall”

Word Count: ~1,700 words

Talia didn’t expect to start over at 33.

But life had a way of pushing her toward new beginnings — even when she wasn’t ready. After a difficult breakup and a year that felt heavier than most, she finally moved into a quiet apartment building on the edge of town.

She wanted peace.

She wanted space.

She wanted a life that didn’t hurt.

She didn’t want romance.

Not yet.

Maybe not ever.

But life doesn’t always wait for perfect timing.

⭐ The First Encounter

Talia struggled with her boxes on move‑in day, balancing a stack that was clearly too heavy. The elevator doors were closing when a hand reached out and stopped them.

“Hold on,” a voice said.

She looked up.

Her neighbor.

Tall.

Calm.

Soft‑spoken.

Wearing a simple gray sweater and carrying a bag of groceries.

He smiled. “You look like you need help.”

Talia blinked. “I’m okay.”

He raised a brow. “You’re carrying half your apartment.”

She laughed softly. “Fine. Maybe a little help.”

He took the boxes from her effortlessly.

“I’m Evan,” he said.

“Talia.”

“Welcome to the building.”

She didn’t know why, but his smile made her feel… safe.

⭐ The Small Things

Over the next few weeks, Talia noticed things.

Evan always held the elevator for her.

He always greeted her with a warm “Hi, Talia.”

He always carried her heavier grocery bags.

He always asked how her day was — and listened to the answer.

Not in a romantic way.

Not in a pushy way.

Just… kind.

One evening, she found a small box of tea outside her door with a note:

“Thought you might like this. —E”

She smiled.

She didn’t know how he knew she liked chamomile.

But she didn’t mind.

⭐ The Quiet Moments

Their friendship grew slowly.

Sometimes they talked in the hallway.

Sometimes they shared the elevator.

Sometimes they walked to the parking lot together.

Nothing dramatic.

Nothing fast.

Nothing intense.

Just soft.

Warm.

Steady.

One evening, Talia returned home looking exhausted. Evan stepped out of his apartment at the same time.

“Tough day?” he asked.

She nodded. “Just… life.”

Evan didn’t ask for details.

He simply said, “Come sit for a bit.”

Talia hesitated.

Then nodded.

They sat on the hallway bench — the one no one ever used — and talked about simple things. Work. Books. Music. The weather.

Talia felt her shoulders relax.

She hadn’t felt that in a long time.

⭐ The Dinner

One Friday evening, Talia came home with takeout. Evan stepped out of his apartment holding a bowl of pasta.

He looked at her bag. “You’re eating alone?”

She shrugged. “I usually do.”

He hesitated — then said softly:

“Would you like company?”

Talia blinked. “Company?”

Evan nodded. “Only if you want.”

She didn’t know why she said yes.

But she did.

They ate together at his small dining table, talking about everything and nothing. Talia laughed more than she expected. Evan listened more than anyone had in years.

When she stood to leave, Evan said:

“I like having you here.”

Talia felt her heart soften.

“I like being here,” she whispered.

⭐ The Slow Burn

Days turned into weeks.

Their routine became natural.

Evan knocked on her door when he cooked too much.

Talia brought him pastries from the café near her office.

They watched movies sometimes — sitting on opposite ends of the couch at first, then closer as time passed.

One evening, Talia fell asleep during a movie. She woke up with a blanket over her shoulders.

Evan was sitting beside her, reading quietly.

She whispered, “You didn’t wake me?”

He smiled. “You looked peaceful.”

Talia felt something warm bloom in her chest.

Something she hadn’t felt in a long time.

⭐ The Moment

One rainy night, Talia arrived home soaked. Evan opened his door immediately.

“You’re drenched,” he said.

She laughed. “I forgot my umbrella.”

He grabbed a towel and gently dried her hair — slow, careful, respectful.

Talia froze.

Evan stepped back quickly. “Sorry. I didn’t mean—”

Talia shook her head. “It’s okay.”

He looked at her — really looked — and she felt her breath catch.

“Talia…” he said softly. “I don’t want to rush you.”

She swallowed. “I know.”

“I don’t want to replace anything you lost.”

Her eyes softened.

“I just want to be someone you come home to.”

Talia felt her heart break open — not painfully, but gently.

Healing.

⭐ The Ending

Weeks later, Talia knocked on Evan’s door.

He opened it, surprised. “Everything okay?”

She nodded. “Yes.”

She took a breath.

“Would you like to have dinner with me? Not as neighbors. As… something more.”

Evan’s smile was soft, warm, quietly kilig.

“I’d like that,” he said. “Very much.”

Talia felt something she hadn’t felt in years.

Hope.

Not because Evan fixed her.

But because she finally chose someone who didn’t hurt her to love.

Someone who waited.

Someone who stayed.

Someone who lived… across the hall.
