All she wanted was her usual JC Barley â the drink that kept her sane through deadlines, meetings, and the chaos of everyday life.
She definitely wasnât expecting a stranger to grab her cup, walk away with it, and sip it like it belonged to him.
He wasnât rude.
He wasnât arrogant.
He wasnât even aware.
He was just⊠confidently mistaken.
The kind who apologized with his whole heart. The kind who insisted on buying her a new drink. The kind who said, âIf destiny wanted me to taste your order⊠maybe it wants me to know you too.â
And she felt something she didnât expect:
A warm, funny, JCâBarleyâflavored kilig.

đ WordPress Long Version (Full Cinematic OneâShot)
She wasnât planning to fall in love today.
She wasnât even planning to talk to anyone.
All she wanted was her usual JC Barley â the drink that had become her tiny ritual of peace. Every morning, she ordered the same thing, sat at the same table, and took the same first sip that reminded her she could survive whatever the day threw at her.
Today was no different.
Or so she thought.
The café was busy, the baristas were rushing, and Esther stood quietly by the counter, waiting for her name to be called. She checked her phone, scrolled through her tasks, and mentally prepared herself for another long day.
âJC Barley for KC!â
She stepped forward.
But someone else got there first.
A man â tall, confident, clearly in a hurry â grabbed her cup, thanked the barista, and walked away without even looking.
KC froze.
Did he justâ
He did.
He took her drink.
Her JC Barley.
Her sanity.
She marched toward him, heels clicking like a româcom heroine on a mission.
âExcuse me!â she called out.
He turned around midâsip.
His eyes widened.
âOh no.â
She crossed her arms. âThatâs mine.â
He looked at the cup, then at her, then at the cup again â as if hoping it would magically change names.
âI⊠I thought it was mine,â he said. âI ordered the same thing.â
âYou ordered my peace,â she said.
He winced. âIâm so sorry. I swear I wasnât stealing your happiness.â
âYou drank it.â
âI did,â he admitted. âAnd it tasted like destiny.â
She blinked. âSeriously?â
He nodded, embarrassed but smiling. âLet me fix this. Iâll buy you another one. And⊠maybe a pastry. And possibly a new life if that helps.â
She laughed â the kind of laugh that escapes before you can stop it.
He walked back to the counter, ordered her drink, and waited beside her like a man trying to redeem himself from a caffeine crime.
âIâm Theo,â he said. âProfessional drink thief. Amateur destiny believer.â
âIâm Esther,â she replied. âProfessional JC Barley victim.â
He grinned. âWell, KC⊠if destiny wanted me to taste your order, maybe it wants me to know you too.â
She rolled her eyes, but her smile betrayed her.
When the barista handed her the new drink, Theo gently pushed it toward her.
âFor you,â he said. âAnd I promise I wonât steal this one.â
She took it, fingers brushing his â a small moment, but warm enough to feel.
Outside, the morning sun hit the cafĂ© windows just right, turning everything soft and golden. Esther took her first sip, and for the first time, it wasnât just the drink that made her feel lighter.
It was him.
Maybe destiny wasnât subtle. Maybe it didnât need to be. Maybe sometimes it worked through mistaken orders and stolen sips.
And maybe â just maybe â this JC Barley mixâup was the start of something sweet.
