She stopped by for coffee before another long day.
He handed her the receipt.
She almost threw it away.
Good thing she didn’t.
Written on the back was a message:
“You looked like you needed someone to choose you today.”
He wasn’t loud.
He wasn’t flirty.
He wasn’t trying to impress her.
He was just… kind.
The kind who noticed things nobody else did.
The kind who remembered her usual order.
The kind who made an ordinary coffee run feel like the beginning of a story.
And she felt something she didn’t expect:
A soft, unexpected kilig —
the kind that arrives hidden between a receipt and a smile.

⭐ “The Coffee Receipt”
Category: JC Wellness • Stories & Writing • Suite & Stories
Sienna Morales wasn’t looking for romance.
She was looking for caffeine.
There was a difference.
A very important difference.
Because romance was complicated.
Coffee was dependable.
Coffee didn’t leave messages unread.
Coffee didn’t cancel plans.
Coffee didn’t disappear halfway through conversations.
Coffee simply showed up and did its job.
Which was exactly why she stood in line at the small café every Tuesday morning before work.
Her day was stacked with:
- Education tasks
- Stories & Writing drafts
- Boss Suite updates
- AI Projects
- Digital Products
- JC Wellness content
And right now, all she wanted was her usual cup.
The barista smiled.
“The regular?”
She nodded.
“Please.”
A few minutes later, her order was ready.
She grabbed the cup, thanked the cashier, and headed toward the door.
Then a voice called out.
“Wait.”
She turned.
The other barista hurried toward her.
Gabriel Cruz.
She knew his name because the staff wore name tags.
Not because she’d spent months noticing him.
Definitely not that.
“You forgot your receipt,” he said.
“Oh.”
She took it.
The receipt wasn’t important.
She almost tossed it into the nearest trash bin.
But something stopped her.
Maybe curiosity.
Maybe instinct.
Maybe the way Gabriel looked oddly nervous.
She unfolded the paper.
And froze.
Written neatly on the back:
You looked like you needed someone to choose you today.
Her heart skipped.
Just once.
Just enough.
She looked up.
Gabriel instantly looked away.
His ears turned red.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
She walked back to the counter.
Holding the receipt.
Holding her coffee.
Holding a thousand questions.
“What’s this?” she asked.
Gabriel glanced up.
Then down again.
Then up.
Then down.
Like eye contact suddenly became dangerous.
“A receipt.”
She laughed.
“The note.”
“Oh.”
Silence.
Then:
“That one.”
“Yes. That one.”
His smile appeared slowly.
Shy.
Almost embarrassed.
“You looked sad.”
She blinked.
“What?”
“You always come in smiling,” he said.
“Today you didn’t.”
The answer startled her.
Not because he noticed.
Because he remembered.
“You know that?”
Gabriel shrugged.
“You come here every Tuesday.”
“You remember that?”
Another shrug.
“You order the same thing.”
Her cheeks warmed.
“You notice a lot.”
He smiled softly.
“I try to.”
For a moment neither spoke.
The café buzzed around them.
Orders being called.
Coffee machines steaming.
Conversations blending together.
Yet somehow it felt quiet.
Like the world softened around the small space between them.
Finally Sienna looked at the receipt again.
“You wrote this?”
Gabriel nodded.
“It was silly.”
“It wasn’t.”
He looked relieved.
Then nervous again.
Then relieved.
Then nervous.
She laughed.
“You do that a lot.”
“Do what?”
“Look like you’re about to quit your job and run away.”
Gabriel covered his face.
“I’m not usually this awkward.”
“You literally wrote motivational messages on receipts.”
“I know.”
“And gave them to customers.”
“It sounds worse when you say it out loud.”
She laughed again.
The real kind.
The kind she hadn’t laughed in days.
His expression softened.
“There you are.”
She blinked.
“What?”
“That smile.”
Her heart betrayed her.
Completely.
Because he wasn’t flirting.
Not really.
He was simply happy she looked better.
And somehow that made it worse.
Or better.
She wasn’t entirely sure.
Gabriel leaned against the counter.
“You know,” he said, “I almost didn’t give you that receipt.”
“Why?”
“I thought you’d think it was strange.”
Sienna looked at the note once more.
Then carefully folded it and placed it inside her planner.
“No.”
She smiled.
“I think it arrived exactly when I needed it.”
For the first time all morning, Gabriel looked completely relaxed.
And his smile?
Dangerous.
Soft.
Warm.
The kind that stays in your thoughts far longer than it should.
As she reached the door, Gabriel called after her.
“Sienna?”
She turned.
“Yeah?”
He scratched the back of his neck.
“If you ever need another motivational receipt…”
She raised a brow.
“Yes?”
His grin appeared.
“I know where to find you every Tuesday.”
She laughed all the way to her car.
Coffee in one hand.
Receipt in the other.
Heart suspiciously lighter than before.
Sometimes stories don’t start with grand gestures.
Sometimes they don’t begin with flowers.
Sometimes they begin with coffee.
And a receipt that says exactly what you didn’t realize you needed to hear.
A one-shot moment — gentle, warm, kilig —
just like JC Wellness.
